OIKONOMOPOULOS KONSTANTINOS

Information

The whole story began several decades ago (early 50) by some pebbles, which aroused the interest of Kwnstantinos Oikonomopoulos for a mineral collection (at that period of time Kwnstantinos was ten years old). So the replacement of pebbles with crystalline minerals did not take long to happen.

Time to time we reached a gigantic collection consisting of more than 3.100 specimens from around the world and especially from Greece. As a result the collection promoted to a Museum with sizable samples bearing huge crystals on them.

Samples gathered in past decades are now rare, such as samples from Lavrion galleries, which mined during the 19th century and many of them have ceased to exist in modern worldwide mining.

A similar and parallel enrichment was done with the fossils, the second part of the museum. There is no doubt that the museum became a reality due to the desire of Kwnstantinos.I. Oikonomopoulos, founder of the museum, for continuous development.

So far the museum includes specimens of great value and unique beauty.

Nowadays, primary and High schools visit the Museum of Minerals and Fossils K.I. Oikonomopoulos giving rise to familiarize students with the world of minerals.
During visit, students have the opportunity to listen and learn about the important role of minerals in human life, especially in Greece which is an outdoor geological laboratory.
Meanwhile, students have the opportunity for an environmental tour of the palaeobotanical garden of the Museum with rare trees, bushes and turfs that growing in Greece.
